Surrey Heath Islamic Funerals Trust
In April, the SHMA launched the Surrey Heath Islamic Funerals Trust (SHIFT). The Trust provides a cost effective means to provide for a Muslim burial through the payment of small annual contributions into a fund.
Having spoken to may in the community, one of the concerns that always comes up is the subject of funerals and that of the cost related to it. Recent funerals that have been performed have been found to cost typically £3000 which is a significant outlay for people and a large sum of money for people to set aside.
The Association looked at way in which the financial blow could be softened at such a tragic, emotional and stressful time of the bereaved family. Out of the the teh Trust was born to help assist with the financial burden and also to help with relieving some of the stress endured.
All muslims are invited to join the trust for an intial joining fee of £60 and then a regular annual subscription, currently set at £20. For this small amount the Trust will arrange the funeral for yourself and your dependents (spouse and children living with you). If you do the sums, you will see it would take over 100 years to pay for one funeral at these rates! We're sure that you will agree the benefits are worth it! For the Trust to be a success this really has to be a community effort and therefore we urge all muslims living in the are join the trust! You not only gain peace of mind, but you will also help your fellow brothers and sisters by joining!
